Navire Argo’s collection

The programming at the Navire Argo cinema will largely be based on a collection of film prints, offering audiences the increasingly rare experience of watching films on film.

A collection under construction through donations and deposits

To build up Navire Argo’s collection, we call on archives, collectors, filmmakers, and distributors willing to entrust us with prints so that these films can be viewed on film.

We will store these film prints, short and feature films, recent and old, in the best possible conditions so that we can screen them to the public in our 89-seat theater.

If you would like to contribute in any way to this project, by submitting prints or helping us find them, please write to us at: contact@navireargo.org

The prints will be safely stored on shelves in a vault with a capacity of 1,000 films, maintained at a temperature below 15°C and a relative humidity of less than 30%.

They will travel through time thanks to solar energy from photovoltaic panels installed on the roof above, ensuring that the film projection experience will continue for a long time to come.

The equipment needed to inspect and view them on editing tables will be intstalled at the entrance to the storage area.

The bulk of Navire Argo’s programming

The Navire Argo cinema will be dedicated to analog film in all its forms and in a thousand different ways, both by showing contemporary works that use this medium for filming or projection, and by offering the opportunity to see repertory films projected in their original format, as they were seen by audiences at the time.

That is why Navire Argo’s collection of film prints will be an important element that will enable us to organize regular screenings, like a small film archive.

In order to screen these precious prints, the booth will be equipped with a pair of the latest generation of Kinoton 16mm and 35mm projectors from the German manufacturer. It will also be designed to facilitate the inspection of prints before and after screenings and the potential assembling of reels.

For many years, our non-profit has organized screenings and shared its passion for film with audiences, whether outdoors or in friendly movie theaters. Navire Argo will enable us to do so regularly and in the best possible conditions.

The projection conditions, both for image and sound, will be particularly well cared for thanks to the experts in this field who have kindly agreed to assist us in designing the theater.

As the association is mainly made up of filmmakers, this care for projection is only natural! In addition, our structure now also includes professional projectionists who are experienced in film projection and will contribute their expertise.

Terms and conditions tailored to donors

We are looking for 16mm or 35mm prints of films.

These prints must be in good condition, projectable, and free of vinegar damage.

When the film has been released in 35mm prints for theatrical distribution, we prefer this format.

Except in very special cases, we do not accept production materials such as negatives, rushes or work prints.

There are no genre restrictions, but with a particular focus on fringe cinema.

There are two ways to contribute to the collection: depositing copies or donating them.

Our goal is to ensure that the copies in your possession can be preserved for the long term and continue to be viewed, in the public interest.

As each case is unique, we are open to discussion depending on whether or not you are the rights holder, whether it is a single film or several hundred!
